Love Abundance and Safety |

I’m thinking about the strength of partnerships – two birds, two whales, two lighthouses. There is the ship of abundance finding safe harbour. In this sheltered place, we live in safety and security.

We Are Led There For Peace and Connection |

It’s Friday evening coming into the weekend. We gather our family groups and head down south to Margaret River. We leave behind the bustle and lights of the city. We retreat to restore ourselves.

The Glowing Heart of the City |

Nearing twilight, over the water you can feel the glow of the city’s heart.

Major Arterials |

Life flows through the heart of the city from the north to south. Roads, railways, waterways and wildlife. A vibrant celebration. A treasured pattern of connection to each other.

Be Still My Beating Heart |

I love the stillness of the water lilies on Margaret River. The birds are coming to rest, just as we do. This is the peaceful place that works its magic. It breathes life back into us and we see beauty again.

Margaret River, Under The Water And Up In The Sky |

The Margaret River and its forest lead us. We look down into the river and see the warm rich tones of the shallows. Above us the birds soar through the sky. Here we become a lighter version of ourselves.

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the beauty and abundance around us. If ever there was a single place on earth where the best of life is on offer, it’s here.

We Rise Up and We Fly |

I’m gazing out at all those uplifting elements. Our city, it’s bridges, the soaring birds and pine trees of Cottesloe Beach.

I am struck by the majesty of this city, set against the river and the vastness of the sea.

The summer air rests over Rottnest and Cottesloe. Our life is a beach party.

Living With Our Whole Hearts |

People might sometimes feel disappointed. Or that they sometimes have to compromise too much to get on, to be in business. They might feel a sense of limitation and sacrifice. Yet here we are in this wonderful place. I want to expand people’s view of Perth and invite them to fall in love again with where they live. This is a large painting that shows the vast metropolis of Perth, looking from the north over the forest and lakes and playing fields of our green northern suburbs. The Perth CBD is flanked by the Swan River, which joins with the Canning River to make its gentle way to the Indian Ocean. Looking down the coast, you can see from City Beach to Cottesloe and Fremantle, and down to Garden Island and beyond, right down to the beautiful jetty at Busselton and the lighthouse at Cape Naturaliste.

Longing For Play |

This painting is about how we’re part of a bigger world with the complexity of bridges, houses and busy places. There is this longing in all of us to find the playful space. There’s the shallows, the Ferris wheel, rainbow colours and the beach. This is about the childhood spirit, that resides in all of us.

Still In Paradise |

This is about coming to rest. In this painting of Perth, the big container ship is anchored off the coast between Cottesloe and Rottnest and the water is quite still. This is where we slow down to look at what we really have, this wonderful paradise around us.

We are dazzled by the golden sun reflected off the city towers. Fortunes are made in this market as pulses race and people dream.

Dreams and buildings soar skywards. Here is the boldness and the striving.

Sydney Sunrise |

This is my Sydney sunrise. You are looking down over Barangaroo, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. You can see out across the confetti of sailboats on the water, across to Sydney’s beautiful beaches. This is early in the morning when Sydney is just springing to life. The air is crisp. Optimism and potential sweep in with the breeze across the water.

City Morning Colours |

This painting looks over the city of Perth towards the North in the early morning. I’m pleased with the varied colours that I used in the sky. I’m interested in the complexity and energy of living in this place with all its life and potential. The North is underestimated.

My Dream River |

This is a painting about living in the city and dreaming of the river. The little boats in the Claremont Bay are each a story of someone who has decided to spend their time on the water. I’m blending the water and the streets. In my dream, our life and our leisure can flow together seamlessly.

Village Streets Down To The Water |

The higher up you go, the more Claremont sits perched on the river’s edge. The streets all seem to call you down to the water. Each boat is a little dream of freedom and escape. “Run away!” – that’s the invitation. Come and fly on this breeze until you are ready to turn for home again.

Over The River |

Looking across Mosman Bay towards Claremont in the late afternoon light, the water takes on the reflected colours of the clouds in the sky. The sailboats, rooftops and trees are luminous.

City on the River |

The Swan River flows between the twin cities of Perth and South Perth, out into an expansive waterway. There are layers of detail in the cities – gold has a magical, enchanting quality, and there are rich blues and purples. There is a storybook quality to the city, to the places we see every day and have a great fondness for.

I used to live in West Perth, and I had a view of the city. I remember even when the lights go out, the buildings still glow in the moonlight. I’ve seen the city at 3.00am with a full moon casting a beautiful light.

This painting is all about the nightlife in Perth. You can see the city lights and headlights of cars as people move around the city. That’s why Northbridge is in the foreground because it has such vibrancy. I used to live just off to the right in West Perth and would walk to the city at night. It was a thrill for me because the movement and rhythm of car headlights would be illuminating the streets. To an artist like me, these waves of light are really something.

Kingdom of the Brave |

These are monuments to courage and striving. A landscape of risk and benefit. So many days of effort and uncertainty. I see tremendous bravery in the building of this place. I feel the optimism of people and their future.

Big Radiant City |

This painting is about a place that gives us stability and a solidness to the principles of law and the rules of life. You can see that in the layering. There are layers of things that make up civilisation and make things on which we can depend. There’s tremendous investment in education and processes. I’m paying homage to the layers of time and work that go into making historical progression.

The towers of Perth’s CBD are ever rising and reaching.
